Parent Information

Try Scouts for free

If your child is interested in Scouts, just come along and try it !

On the first night we will introduce them to the unit and then have them work in a small group of scouts called a "patrol", the patrol leader and the other patrol members will show them what to do, so it doesn't matter if you are not sure what to do or are a bit shy - there is plenty of assistance.

The leaders will also be keeping a close eye on any new scouts to make sure they are being included in all of the activities and know what they need to do next.

Your first few weeks of scouting are free, but we need a form filled out on the first night - just so we have your contact details and any important medical information.

If they enjoy scouts after a few weeks and want to continue they can get a uniform and be ‘invested’. After investiture, the group will bill you for membership.  Click here for Membership Details.

What’s Included In Your Fees?

Your fees includes membership to both Scouting Australia and Wattle Grove Scouts.  It includes all our weekly meetings and access to all our fun!

Some activities, such as camps, will incur additional costs such as transport, food or entry fees but these are charged as they occur and these activities are optional.

Membership fees only cover approximately 25% of the total costs of running the group, additional funds are generated through fund raising events, involving families of members and the broader community. To undertake these activities, we rely on family support at various times throughout the year, and each family is encouraged to assist at a group fundraising activities at least once a year.

We aim to keep costs to families as low as possible, so you’ll probably be surprised at the value Scouts offers!

Child Safe Scouting

The number one priority for Scouts Australia is Child Safe Scouting.

  • All Leaders are thoroughly screened, undergo the relevant State checks, and must hold a valid, verified Working with Children check.

  • Adult Leaders receive comprehensive, ongoing training across a range of subjects including leadership, WHS, and child protection.

  • At least one person trained in first aid attends all major events.

  • At least two adults are present at all meetings and events.

  • We will liaise with you to ensure we have the information necessary to cater for your child’s individual medical, physical and dietary requirements.

  • All Scouts Australia Branches have teams of people responsible for child safety who action any concerns that parents or children may have regarding safety.

Uniform

The formal uniform consists of a shirt which you can purchase from the scout shop online, the group scarf and a woggle. You are required to purchase the shirt for investiture, but the scarf and woggle will be provided by the group.

Make sure that you purchase the one appropriate to your child’s section:

  • Tan shoulders for Joeys

  • Yellow shoulders for Cubs

  • Green for Scouts

  • Maroon for Venturers

Adult Involvement

Scouts is run by volunteers. That’s right – we freely give up our time and effort to provide a great experience for your children. Obviously, we get a lot out of it, and you could too.

While our leaders do a fantastic job, any help from parents will be greatly appreciated. We all have different skills, and all of them can be useful.
Please talk to a leader about how you can help, even if it is just a little bit.

If being ‘a leader’ is not for you, perhaps consider a role on the Group Support Committee, helping out at working bees or at fundraising events. The Support Committee meets every 4-6 weeks about 8 times a year and all parents are welcome to attend
